邱吉爾名言

財政司司長在四月十日的網誌中引用英國戰時首相邱吉爾的名言「 Give us the tools and we will finish the job.（給我們工具，我們便可以完成任務）」，呼籲立法會議員在本周投票支持財政預算案。但是，現在財政預算案面臨的真正問題並不是缺乏工具，而是缺乏對任務的清楚認識。因此，筆者再次回贈司長另外幾句邱吉爾的名言，望能笑納。

第一句是「 Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak. Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.（站起來說活需要勇氣，坐下傾聽同樣需要）」。官字雖然擁有兩個口，遺憾的是缺乏一雙耳。

邱吉爾的第二句名言是「 It is always wise to look ahead, but difficult to look further than you can see.（人人都知道向前看是明智的，但要做到高瞻遠矚卻是困難的）」。身處萬人之上，原本就應當看得更遠；如果不幸有近視或老花，又不願意借一借旁人的眼鏡，那麼盲衝直撞的結果就是車毀人亡。
邱吉爾的第三句名言是「 All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.（偉大的事情都很簡單，大多數可以用一個詞語來表達：自由，公正，榮譽，責任，仁慈，希望）」。如果缺乏這些簡單的理念，施政就難免舉步維艱。

聆聽的勇氣、高瞻遠矚的目光以及偉大的理念，這些正是目前我們最需要的。有了這些東西，再加上必要的工具，才能保證任務的完成。如果政府一再迴避社會貧富懸殊的深層矛盾，那麼即使有再多的工具，亦同樣無法完成任務。而社會大眾的不滿與抗爭，亦只會像邱吉爾說的另一句話那樣： Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.（這不是結局，甚至不是結局的開始，而也許是序幕的終結。）
